Boost for Public Transport: CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Flags Off 10 New Semi-Luxury KTC Buses in Panaji
Panaji, August 14, 2026 — In a major push to strengthen public transport and provide commuters with safer, more comfortable travel options, Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant on Thursday flagged off a fleet of 10 brand new semi-luxury, ready-built KTC buses at the Kadamba Transport Corporation Bus Stand in Panaji. The initiative comes ahead of the festive season and is aimed at decongesting key routes while enhancing the overall passenger experience across the state.
the flag-off ceremony was held at the KTC Bus Stand in the presence of Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Chairman of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited Ulhas Tuenkar, senior KTC officials, and other dignitaries. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the induction of modern buses reflects the state government’s commitment to providing world-class, affordable, and sustainable public transport to Goans as well as tourists.
“These semi-luxury buses are not just vehicles, they are a step towards a smarter, greener, and more citizen-friendly Goa. We want our people to choose public transport with pride and comfort,_” Dr. Sawant said.
The 10 newly inducted buses are semi-luxury, ready-built coaches equipped with cushioned seating, better ventilation, LED destination boards, and improved safety features. Officials said the buses will be deployed on high-density intra-state and inter-city routes connecting Panaji with Margao, Mapusa, Vasco, and other major towns to reduce waiting time and overcrowding during peak hours.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho noted that the government is working on a phased plan to modernize the entire KTC fleet. “Under the leadership of CM Dr. Sawant, KTC is being transformed. These buses will offer comfort at affordable fares and encourage more people to opt for public transport over private vehicles,_” he added.
With Goa witnessing a steady rise in both local commuters and tourists, officials believe the new fleet will ease pressure on existing services, especially during peak tourist and festival seasons.
The semi-luxury buses are expected to improve last-mile connectivity from bus stands to key tourist and commercial hubs.
