1.8 Tonnes of Meat Seized at Keri Check Post, Driver Booked in Sattari

Valpoi: Valpoi Police on Wednesday seized approximately 1,800 kg of meat worth around Rs 3.4 lakh from a goods vehicle at the Keri check post on the Goa-Karnataka border. According to police, the vehicle was intercepted during routine checking after officials noticed suspicious circumstances.

The driver, a 25-year-old resident of Karnataka, allegedly failed to produce necessary documents including bills, invoices, and authorization letters required for transporting meat into the state.

Police have taken both the meat consignment and the vehicle into custody and registered a case. Samples of the meat have also been sent for verification. Investigations are now underway to ascertain the source of the meat, its intended destination in Goa, and the details of suppliers and buyers involved. Authorities are also checking whether the consignment complied with food safety and transport regulations.
