Lokmanya Tilak Punyatithi Observed; Senior Goan Journalists Felicitated in Mapusa by All Goa Digital Journalists Association

Mapusa: All Goa Digital Journalists Association (AGDJA) organised a solemn programme to commemorate the Punyatithi of freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and felicitate distinguished Goan journalists at Hotel Satyaheera Mini Hall, Mapusa, on Saturday.


Senior journalist Narayan Rathwad attended as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Sudhir R. Kandolkar, Dr. Nutan D. Bicholkar, Adv. Shailesh Gawas.

As part of the programme, veteran journalists from across Goa were honoured for their contribution to journalism. The awardees included Jamaluddin Shaikh (Navhind Times), Joaquim Fernandes(Ex Journalist), Joseph Zuzarte (Times of India), Amar Chawaria (Goa News Agency), Damodar Korgaonkar (Goa Republic 24 Taas), Suryakant Chodankar (Surya Goa Times), Deepak Laad (Goa Puri Varta) and Ramakant Parab (Social Worker) .

The event paid rich tributes to Lokmanya Tilak, remembering his immense contribution to India’s freedom movement and his inspiring message, “Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it.” Speakers also highlighted the vital role of journalists in strengthening democracy and promoting responsible journalism. Chief Guest and senior journalist from Mapusa, Mr. Narayan Ratwad, stated, “You require guts to say ‘Swaraj is my birthright’ among the Britishers who ruled the country with an iron hand.”Dr. Nutan Bicholkar said Tilak was bold and courageous since his childhood and narrated an incident from her early days. Advocate Shailesh Gawas urged reporters to report fearlessly but only facts. Former Chairperson of the Mapusa Municipal Council, Mr. Sudhir Kanolkar, and the President of the All Goa Digital Journalists Association also addressed the gathering.
