Stop Intimidating Critics; Answer the Tribal Community Instead: Girish Chodankar
Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Shri Girish Chodankar has strongly criticised the BJP Government for attempting to suppress democratic voices by filing defamation complaints instead of addressing the legitimate concerns of the people.
Shri Chodankar stated that before initiating defamation cases against those who raise issues of public interest, the BJP Government must explain why the ₹3,200 crore Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) allocation meant for the welfare and development of the Scheduled Tribe community has still not reached the people it was intended to benefit.
He pointed out that the long-pending demands of the Scheduled Tribe community, including the assurances sought during the historic Bali Andolan, remain unfulfilled despite repeated promises made by the Government. Instead of responding with transparency and accountability, the BJP has chosen the path of intimidation by attempting to silence critics through police complaints and legal action.
“The Scheduled Tribe community is not asking for favours. They are demanding what is rightfully theirs. The Government must ensure that the Tribal Sub Plan funds are utilised transparently and that every commitment made to the community is honoured without further delay,” Shri Chodankar said.
He asserted that democracy thrives on questions, accountability and public participation, not on fear and intimidation. Filing defamation complaints cannot erase facts or suppress the voice of the people.
He urged the BJP Government to stop misusing its authority to target political opponents and instead focus on delivering justice, transparency and the constitutional rights of the Scheduled Tribe community.
