Mapusa Advocates Forum Condemns Assault on Advocate Ankur Kumar, Demands Immediate Probe and Safety Law
MAPUSA: The Mapusa Advocates Forum (MAF) has strongly condemned the physical assault on Advocate Ankur Kumar, calling it an attack not just on an individual lawyer but on the justice system and the legal fraternity. In a statement, MAF said that an attack on an advocate, who is an officer of the Court, while he was performing his professional duties and in the presence of state functionaries and police, is a matter of serious concern.
“This is not merely a criminal act but an assault on the dignity of the legal profession and the rule of law,” the Forum stated.
The MAF has demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident. It also urged the government to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of lawyers, including the enactment of special legislation to protect advocates and the legal community.
