Massive Induction of Shri Mariano Rodrigues Signals Statewide Shift Towards Congress Ahead of Elections
CORTALIM, July 7: In a significant political development that underscores the growing public momentum in favour of the Indian National Congress, noted social worker Shri Mariano Rodrigues formally joined the Congress Party along with thousands of his supporters at a massive induction programme held on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, at 6:30 pm at Dr. Isidoro Carvalho Multipurpose Hall, Birla, Cortalim.
Shri Mariano Rodrigues was inducted into the Congress Party by GPCC President Girish Chodankar, who accepted his membership form and welcomed him into the party. The Congress flag was ceremonially handed over to him by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and AICC Goa In-charge Manickrao Thakare, in the presence of AICC Co-Incharge Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, GPCC Working President M. K. Shaikh, District Congress President Assiz Noronha, Block Congress President Peter D’Souza , Mahila Congress President Pratiksha Khalap, Youth Congress President Archit Naik, GPCC Spokesperson Adv. Amit Palekar, Minority Department Chairman Nazir Khan, senior office bearers, executive members, and a large gathering of Congress workers.


The overwhelming participation of thousands of supporters accompanying Shri Mariano Rodrigues transformed the induction programme into a powerful political show of strength, clearly indicating that a statewide shift against the BJP government has begun. The massive turnout reflected the growing anger among Goans over rising unemployment, corruption, inflation, deteriorating governance, and the BJP government’s failure to protect Goa’s identity, environment, and interests of ordinary citizens.
Congress leaders stated that this induction is not merely the joining of one respected social worker, but a clear expression of the people’s desire for political change.
