Run Against Narcotic Drugs’ 10 KM Marathon Draws Enthusiastic Participation Across Goa*

Bambolim, June 28, 2026: The Superintendent of Police, Anti Narcotic Cell, Goa Police, in association with the Narcotics Control Bureau, organised the ‘Run Against Narcotic Drugs’ 10 KM Marathon at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium on Sunday. The event was held to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse while encouraging citizens to adopt a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, students, youth, police personnel and representatives of various organisations, reflecting the community’s shared commitment to combating drug abuse. Director General of Police Shri Alok Kumar flagged off the marathon, setting the event in motion and encouraging participants to actively support the fight against narcotic drugs.

Addressing the participants, Chief Secretary to the Government of Goa, Dr. V. Candavelou, said that society today faces two major challenges-digital addiction and drug addiction. He stressed that effectively tackling the drug menace requires coordinated efforts from the Government, law enforcement agencies and the community. Emphasising the importance of public participation, he said awareness initiatives such as the marathon play a significant role in sensitising society and strengthening the collective fight against drug abuse.

Following the marathon, winners in the men’s and women’s categories were felicitated. Omkar Patil emerged as the winner in the men’s category, while Swizel D’Souza secured the first position in the women’s category. Both winners received a cash prize of ₹5,000 along with a medal, memento and certificate in recognition of their achievement.

The marathon concluded with a renewed commitment from participants and organisers to continue spreading awareness about the dangers of narcotic drugs and to work together towards building a healthier, safer and drug-free Goa.
