CM Sawant Flags Off Pulse Polio Drive, Appeals to Parents for 100% Child Immunisation

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Sunday launched Goa’s Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sankhali, kicking off the state’s latest drive to maintain its polio-free status.Administering the first polio drops to infants at the CHC, Dr. Sawant urged parents across Goa to actively participate in the campaign. “We have loved them in life, let us protect them from disease.

I appeal to every parent — come forward and ensure your little ones receive their polio drops,” the Chief Minister said. The campaign will see polio booths set up at health centres, anganwadis, schools, and transit points across all talukas. Health workers and volunteers will also conduct door-to-door visits to cover children up to five years of age. Directorate of Health Services officials present at the launch said Goa has remained polio-free since 2011, but continued vigilance is essential due to the risk of imported cases.

The Pulse Polio drive is part of the national immunisation programme to sustain India’s polio-free certification achieved in 2014. Sankhali CHC staff confirmed that booths will remain operational from 8 am to 5 pm, with mobile teams covering remote areas in Bicholim taluka.Dr. Sawant also interacted with ASHA workers and health staff, commending their role in previous immunisation drives. “The success of Pulse Polio depends on community participation.  Protecting our children is a shared responsibility,” he added .The campaign will run in phases, with a follow-up round scheduled next month to cover missed children
