Chandel–Hasapur Bridge Should Open Only After Full Completion: Humraskar
Pernem-based social worker Shri Kamlakar M. Humraskar has submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), Pernem Division, urging immediate action to expedite the completion and opening of the Chandel–Hasapur Bridge.
In his representation, Humraskar highlighted that while the bridge construction is nearing completion, it remains closed due to ongoing concrete curing work. He pointed out that the temporary diversion road currently being used by commuters has been severely damaged by monsoon floodwaters, causing major inconvenience to residents, students, workers, senior citizens, and emergency service vehicles.
He stressed that the bridge should be opened to traffic only after all construction work is fully completed and the structure is certified safe for public use. Humraskar stated that the bridge, being constructed with public funds and taxpayers’ money, must meet the highest safety and quality standards before inauguration.
Appealing to the PWD authorities, he requested immediate measures to restore safe connectivity in the area and ensure that the remaining work is completed at the earliest, especially in view of the ongoing monsoon season and the hardships faced by the public.
