Nine youngsters from Delhi rescued from drowning off Morjim beach
Morjim beach: Nine youngsters from Delhi were rescued from drowning off Morjim beach on Tuesday evening after being caught in a strong current while swimming. The group was part of a larger gathering of around 25 visitors, of whom about 15 entered the water despite repeated warnings from on-duty Drishti Marine lifesavers and police personnel. As the group drifted into deeper waters, six managed to swim back to shore while nine others required rescue. Drishti Marine lifesavers responded immediately, rescuing four individuals using rescue boards, two using a jet ski and three using rescue tubes. All the persons who were unable to swim ashore were safely rescued. The rescue operation was carried out by a team of 5 lifesavers – Vinod Salelkar (rescue board), Vikram Talkar (jet ski), Sant Parab (rescue tube), Vikas Chavan (rescue tube) and Mahadev Gaude (rescue tube) supported bt a team onshore which called for medical back-up. All nine individuals were brought safely ashore and were reported to be in stable condition.
