Mapusa District Hospital Power Failure Exposes BJP Government’s Criminal Negligence Towards Public Healthcare: Amarnath Panjikar
The nearly three-hour power outage at Mapusa District Hospital today, which reportedly began around 4:00 PM and crippled essential services including lifts, lighting systems, and critical medical equipment, is a shocking indictment of the utter incompetence and negligence of the BJP Government led by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.
Condemning the incident, Congress leader Amarnath Panjikar stated that it is unacceptable that a major government hospital serving thousands of people in North Goa could be left virtually paralysed for hours due to a power failure. Patients undergoing treatment, senior citizens, visitors, doctors, nurses, and hospital staff were forced to endure immense hardship because of the government’s inability to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to a critical healthcare institution.
Panjikar said that while the BJP Government never misses an opportunity to make grand announcements and indulge in self-promotion, the basic responsibility of maintaining essential infrastructure has been completely neglected. The fact that a district hospital can face such a prolonged outage raises serious concerns about the preparedness of the Health and Power Departments and the effectiveness of emergency backup systems.
“Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar must explain how a government hospital was allowed to remain affected for nearly three hours. If the government cannot guarantee electricity to a hospital, how can citizens trust it to safeguard lives and public welfare?” Panjikar questioned.
He further stated that the incident exposes the hollow claims of good governance repeatedly made by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. The BJP Government has become insensitive to the daily struggles of ordinary Goans, and today’s incident is yet another example of administrative failure, poor planning, and lack of accountability.
Amarnath Panjikar demanded an immediate inquiry into the circumstances that led to the outage, fixing of responsibility on the officials concerned, and urgent measures to ensure that no hospital in Goa faces such a dangerous situation in the future.
“The health and safety of patients cannot be compromised because of government inefficiency. The people of Goa deserve a government that prioritises public services rather than publicity,” Panjikar asserted.
