Firefighters Battle Blaze, Save Flats Near MLA’s House at Mapusa

Mapusa: A flat located near Kamat Garden, close to the MLA’s house in Mapusa, caught fire on Thursday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the fire department.The incident occurred at around 14:05 hrs. A team from the Mapusa Fire Station, led by leading firefighter Prashant Shedgaonkar, rushed to the spot with a fire tender. Fire personnel evacuated residents from adjoining flats as a precaution and battled the flames for nearly 30 minutes before bringing the blaze under control.Firefighters broke open the door of the locked flat to access the source of the fire and used water jets to douse the flames, preventing it from spreading to other units. Cooling operations were later carried out to rule out any re-ignition.No casualties were reported. The extent of damage to property is yet to be ascertained. Fire officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
