CM Sawant Inaugurates Maratha Bhavan, Hails 50 Years of Maratha Shikshan Sanskruti Mandal

Porvorim: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Friday inaugurated the new premises of ‘Maratha Bhavan’ at Porvorim, marking the golden jubilee celebrations of the Maratha Shikshan Sanskruti Mandal.

The 50th anniversary function was attended by Tourism Minister Shri Rohan Khaunte, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Bicholim MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, members of the Mandal, community leaders and students.

Addressing the gathering, CM Sawant lauded the Mandal’s five-decade contribution to education and cultural preservation in Goa. “For 50 years, Maratha Shikshan Sanskruti Mandal has been a pillar of learning and Maratha heritage. The new Maratha Bhavan will serve as a hub for students, cultural activities, and community welfare,” he said.

Chief Minister assured continued government support for institutions promoting education and preserving indigenous traditions. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and contribute to ‘Viksit Goa, Viksit Bharat’.

The newly inaugurated Maratha Bhavan at Porvorim will house the Mandal’s administrative office, a library, cultural hall, and facilities for coaching and skill development. Mandal president said the premises would help expand scholarships, competitive exam guidance, and Marathi language promotion for students across the state.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte noted that cultural institutions like the Mandal play a key role in strengthening Goa’s social fabric and tourism identity. “Heritage and education must go hand in hand. This Bhavan will showcase Maratha culture to visitors while empowering our youth,” he said.

MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade and MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye also addressed the function, recalling the Mandal’s work in rural education since 1976.

The golden jubilee event featured a traditional welcome, lamp lighting, and felicitation of past office bearers and meritorious students. A cultural program showcasing Maratha folk arts and ‘powada’ performances followed the inauguration.

The Maratha Shikshan Sanskruti Mandal, founded in 1976, has been active in running educational initiatives, hostels, and cultural programs for the Maratha community in Goa.

The new Maratha Bhavan is expected to be fully operational from next month.
