Liquor Shops to Remain Shut in Arpora-Nagoa, Sancordem for 3 Days Due to Panchayat Bye-Election

Panaji: The Department of Finance (Revenue and Control) has ordered the closure of all licensed liquor premises on May 23, 24, and 25, 2026 in areas under the jurisdiction of the two vacant wards of Arpora-Nagoa and Sancordem village panchayats. The directive has been issued on account of polling day and counting of votes for the upcoming bye-election to the vacant panchayat seats.

All bars, wine stores, and other licensed liquor outlets within the notified panchayat ward limits will remain closed for the three-day period. The order, issued under the Goa Excise Duty Act, aims to maintain law and order and ensure smooth conduct of the electoral process. Authorities have directed Excise officials to ensure strict compliance, with violations to attract action under relevant provisions.

Polling for the bye-election is scheduled for May 23, followed by counting of votes on May 25. The two wards fell vacant earlier this year.
