CASHEW PLANTATION FIRE AT REVORA DOUSED; MAPUSA FIRE TEAM PREVENTS SPREAD
Mapusa: Swift action by the Mapusa Fire Station on Saturday averted a major loss after a cashew plantation caught fire at Bhoman, Revora, near the church area, at 14:57 hrs.The Fire & Emergency Services team, led by Leading Firefighter Shri Ranjit Gaonkar, rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control before it could spread to adjoining plantations and houses.Officials said the fire was reported in a cashew plantation located behind the church at Bhoman. Dry grass and leaf litter fueled the flames due to prevailing heat conditions.“The team reached quickly and used beaters and water jets to douse the fire. Timely intervention prevented the fire from reaching nearby properties,” said LFF Ranjit Gaonkar of Mapusa Fire Station. No casualties or major crop loss were reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Fire officials have appealed to locals to avoid burning dry waste near plantations during summer months. The Bhoman-Revora stretch has several cashew and coconut plantations, making it vulnerable to fire incidents as temperatures rise.
