FOUNDATION LAID FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF HISTORIC SHREE VITHAL RAKHUMAI TEMPLE IN MAPUSA
MAPUSA: In a ceremony steeped in tradition and public support, the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the revered Shree Vithal Rakhumai Temple was laid in Mapusa on Saturday.The event was held in the distinguished presence of Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Calangute MLA & GSIDC Chairman Michael Lobo, and Pernem MLA & GHRSSIDC Chairman Pravin Arlekar, alongside temple committee members and devotees.
The reconstruction aims to restore the centuries-old shrine, a key spiritual and cultural landmark for Mapusa residents, while upgrading facilities for the growing number of devotees.
The project reflects a blend of heritage preservation and improved amenities to serve the community’s religious needs.MP Tanavade noted the temple’s significance in the social fabric of Bardez, while MLA Lobo stressed that infrastructure support from GSIDC would ensure timely and quality execution. MLA Arlekar highlighted the role of traditional shrines in sustaining Goa’s devotional identity.Priests performed Vedic rituals before the stone-laying, with locals turning out in large numbers to mark the auspicious start. The committee said work will commence immediately with a focus on retaining architectural elements of the original structure.
