SWIFT ACTION BY MAPUSA FIRE TEAM AVERTS MAJOR BLAZE AT MOIRA-BASTORA JUNCTION
MOIRA: Alert response by the Mapusa Fire Station on Saturday afternoon prevented a dry grass fire from escalating near Vodakade, at the busy Moira-Bastora junction.
The fire was reported at 12:51 hrs after patches of dry vegetation caught fire, likely triggered by the intense summer heat. With the site located close to residential pockets and vehicular traffic, the risk of spread was high.
Fire personnel from Mapusa, led by Leading Firefighter Suraj Shetgaonkar, rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control within minutes. The team used beaters and a quick-response water line to douse the flames before winds could carry embers further. No casualties or property damage were reported. Locals credited the team’s swift action for averting what could have turned into a major field fire during peak dry conditions. The fire services have reiterated appeals to the public not to burn waste or discard lit cigarettes in open areas, as dry grass is highly combustible in the current weather.
