Mapusa MLA Leads Monsoon Review gives priority to Drain Cleaning, Emergency Prep
Mapusa: Mapusa MLA took charge of Margao’s monsoon preparedness on Friday, chairing a high-level review meeting at the Mapusa Municipal Council to fast-track pre-monsoon works and fix accountability across departments before the rains arrive. The meeting brought officials from PWD, Electricity, Health, Fire Services, and Disaster Management onto a single timeline, with the MLA directing weekly progress checks and shared responsibility for public safety. Key issues reviewed included nullah desilting, road repairs, tree trimming, and emergency response setups in flood-prone wards. Setting a firm tone, the MLA said there would be “no silos, no delays” this year.
“Public safety is non-negotiable. Every drain choked or wire dangling is a risk we can’t afford. This year, execution will be tracked hourly, not just on paper,” the MLA said. Unlike past years marked by inter-departmental blame after flooding, the new plan mandates joint field visits and combined action for high-risk areas. With the IMD predicting a normal monsoon onset in Goa, the MLA said the next three weeks are critical. A follow-up review has been scheduled for mid-May to ensure all works are completed before the first showers.
