Pirna’s Shantadurga Vidyalaya Gets MPLAD School Bus to Cut Dropouts

Shantadurga Vidyalaya serves Dhatwada, Haturli, Surla — villages with no regular buses. Kids walk 3–5 km daily. Headmistress says girls often quit after Class 8 because of monsoon safety concerns. The 32-seater bus covers a 15-km radius for 90+ students.Why

Class 9–10 enrolment drops in Goa’s hinterland due to transport. Naik said his office prioritised “last-mile gaps” in rural schools while clearing MPLAD funds. This is the 4th such bus in Bardez-Bicholim belt in 2 years. Collector Ankit Yadav said the district will track attendance impact. A parent committee will manage routes and upkeep. RS MP Sadanand Tanavade said MPLAD + DMF funds will be converged for more school infra. The bus will double for field trips, science fairs, sports events — activities Pirna students missed earlier due to cost. Handover was followed by a tree plantation and Naik’s talk on renewable energy careers for Class 10.
