Relief for Little Flower High School calangute as Drain Cleaning, Road Work Begin;

Calangute: April 16 The long-awaited cleaning of clogged drains and improvement of the dilapidated access road to Little Flower High School Calangute has finally commenced, bringing major relief to hundreds of students, parents, and local residents who struggled daily during the monsoon season.

The narrow access road, riddled with potholes and choked side drains, had become a safety hazard. Parents complained of waterlogging, slippery stretches, and traffic snarls during school hours, while residents cited health risks from stagnant water and mosquito breeding. The issue had been pending for several years despite repeated requests.

Taking cognizance of the community’s concerns the panchayat  prioritised the work and initiated the project this week.

The scope includes desilting of stormwater drains, clearing debris, and resurfacing key damaged patches of the school approach road to ensure safe, all-weather access.  parents and school authorities welcomed the move, noting that the timing ahead of the monsoon would prevent flooding and ensure uninterrupted access when schools reopen. “This was a long-pending demand. We thank the panchayat for listening to the people and acting swiftly for the welfare of our children,” said a parent representative.

The Panchayat has assured that the work will be completed on priority, with regular monitoring to maintain quality. Residents have also appealed for proper maintenance post-completion to prevent future neglect.  The initiative is being seen as a key step towards safer school infrastructure and responsive local governance, addressing a civic issue that directly impacts child safety and public health.
