GHRSSIDC Chairman Pravin Arlekar Empowers Cobbler Artisans with Free Tool Kits Under Welfare Drive
Panaji: : In a move to strengthen Goa’s traditional artisan economy, the Chairman of Goa Handicrafts, Rural & Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC), Shri. Pravin Arlekar, on Wednesday distributed Cobbler Kits to needy cobbler artisans across the state. The distribution, held under a special welfare initiative of GHRSSIDC, aims to modernize tools, reduce manual strain, and improve earning potential for cobblers who rely on roadside and community-based work.
Each kit includes upgraded hand tools, adhesives, repair materials, and protective gear designed to help artisans deliver faster, higher-quality repairs.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Arlekar said the initiative recognizes the dignity of traditional trades and seeks to make them sustainable in a changing market. “Our artisans carry skills passed down generations.
With the right support, they can compete and thrive,” he noted. GHRSSIDC officials added that the scheme will be scaled in phases, with skill-upgrade workshops and market linkages planned for recipients. The Corporation has identified beneficiaries through local panchayats and artisan collectives to ensure kits reach those most in need.
