Calangute Opposes Axing of Trees, Want Answers First”
Calangute: Residents of Calangute have voiced strong opposition to the cutting of trees along the scenic stretch from Dolphin Circle to Bodko Vaddo, raising concerns about environmental damage and the lack of transparency surrounding the project. The Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) has formally objected, urging authorities to provide a detailed road alignment plan before proceeding further.
The CCF has formally written to the PWD and local authorities demanding a full road-alignment plan why the trees need to go, how many are marked, whether alternatives like pruning or realigning the carriageway were studied, and what compensatory planting is promised. They’ve also asked for an environmental impact note and a site inspection with citizens present.
Authorities have yet to publish an alignment map or a tree-count survey, which is fueling the backlash. The CCF says they’re not against improvements, but want transparency, safeguards, and proof that cutting is the last resort
