Panaji: The second round of the Goa Premier Division League (3-day matches) organized by the Goa Cricket Association, began on Thursday. On the opening day, at Bandodkar Ground in Campal, Salgaocar Cricket Club reached 285 runs in the first innings against Chowgule Sports Club. At stumps, Chowgule were 41 for 1. At NAPEX-Sankhali, Dempo Cricket Club were all out for 262 against Margao Cricket Club, while at the GCA ground in Porvorim, Geno Sports Club scored 309 runs. At the end of the day, Panjim Gymkhana reached 47 for 2.
Solid start by Salgaocar
At Bandodkar Ground, Panjim Gymkhana, Salgaocar Cricket Club opted to bat first and posted 285 runs in 74.5 overs. Azaan Thota (26) and Anand Tendulkar were dismissed early. Shaantanu Nevagi steadied the innings with a patient 45, while captain Yash Kasvankar scored 32. In the middle order, Tunish Sawkar played an aggressive knock of 81 to take the team to a strong total. Ayush Verlekar (18), Yogesh Kauthankar (16), and lower-order batter Ruthvik Naik (21) also contributed.
For Chowgule Sports Club, Shubham Tari claimed 4 wickets, while Darshan Misal took 2, and Mithil Karekar and Kaustubh Pingulkar picked up one each. In reply, Chowgule made a cautious start and were 41 for 1 in 13 overs. Sanath Nevagi scored 23, while Gauresh Kambli remained unbeaten on 9. They trail by 244 runs.
Dempo’s steady batting
At the NAPEX ground, Dempo Cricket Club scored 262 in 87.3 overs after electing to bat. Captain Snehal Kauthankar led the innings with a fine 89 off 127 balls. Mohit Yadav scored 35, Aaditya Kota 28, and Saniket Palkar added 25 runs. Jeevan Chittem contributed 23.
For Margao Cricket Club, Anuj Yadav impressed with 6 wickets. Rudresh Sharma took 2, while Deeparaj Gaonkar and Udit Yadav claimed one wicket each. Margao’s first innings is yet to begin.
Dominant performance by Geno
At Porvorim, Geno Sports Club piled up 309 runs in 69.1 overs. Nihal Surlakar top-scored with 90 off 103 balls, while captain Samar Dubhashi made 59. Kaushal Hattangadi scored 33, Pundalik Naik 32, and Vikas Singh added 23.
In reply, Panjim Gymkhana were 47 for 2 in 16 overs. Bansil Pandya scored 25, while Suyash Prabhudessai was unbeaten on 12. The team trails by 262 runs, with Geno firmly in control.
