Goa Tourism Department Suspends Calangute Shack License Following Violent Assault on Tourists
PANAJI: Goa Tourism Department Corporation temporarily suspended the license of the Shack after a tourist was brutally assaulted by the staff on Calangute on wednesday following a verbal clash.
One visitor sustained serious injuries while the other escaped with minor injuries.
A tourist from Bengaluru on March 24 was violently attacked and assaulted with iron rods and sharp objects by the staff of the shack for allegedly occupying it without their consent, causing some serious injuries.
However, the police in swift action have taken two staff members into custody who have
previous records.
The police have registered the offence as an attempt to murder and investigation is in progress.
The tourism minister, Mr Rohan Khaunte, condemned the incident and assured strict action against the staff who was involved in violent assault while the license holder of the shack was summoned for hearing on March 30.
