Assembly Speaker Launches Water Project in Dharbandora,
Dharbandora: Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar, alongside WRD Minister, Shri. Subhash Shirodkar , ZP Member, Sarpanch and Panch Members, laid Foundation Stone for construction of Open Type Bandhara across River Udnai at Mogarshem, Camarcond V.P. Kirlapal Dabal, Dharbandora. The bandhara—a low-height check-dam with openings—will store monsoon runoff, recharge groundwater, and provide a steadier supply for irrigation, drinking water, and livestock in nearby villages.
Officials expect it to benefit farmers in Kirlapal-Dabal and surrounding hamlets, reduce seasonal water scarcity, and support horticulture and paddy fields that depend on the Udnai’s flow.
Dr. Gaonkar framed the project as part of a broader push to strengthen rural water security in Goa’s hinterland, while Shirodkar highlighted WRD’s plan to replicate similar structures in other water-stressed catchments.
Local panchayat members welcomed the move, noting past dry-season shortages. Construction is slated to begin later this year, with completion aimed before next monsoon.
