Authorities Gear Up for Thrilling Lairai Jatra at Bicholim”
Bicholim: In preparation for the forthcoming Annual Jatra of Shri Devi Lairai at Shirgao scheduled to commence on 21st April 2026, the District Administration, North Goa, under the supervision of Collector and Chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority, North Goa, Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, has intensified safety and crowd management measures.
A sensitisation meeting with Dhonds (devotees) was held at Shirgao in the presence of Additional Collector-II North Goa Shri Pravin Parab, Superintendent of Police Shri Prabodh Shirvoikar, Shri Vishwesh Karpe, Deputy Collector & Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bicholim Shri Shubham Naik, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Bicholim, Shridevi B. V., IPS, along with senior officers of the Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Revenue Administration, Public Works Department (Roads), Tourism Department, Electricity Department, Village Panchayat Shirgao and the Managing Committee of Shree Devi Lairai Saunsthan.

During the meeting, Dhonds were sensitised on safe participation in the festival, including adherence to one-way movement, staggered entry at sensitive locations, use of designated holding areas, avoidance of pushing or reverse movement, and cooperation with volunteers and authorities to ensure orderly conduct of rituals and public safety.
To ensure effective enforcement of safety norms and maintenance of clear access routes, a Joint Task Force Order has been issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bicholim, providing for coordinated action by Police, Revenue, Panchayat, PWD, Fire Services and other concerned departments for regulation of temporary structures, removal of obstructions and monitoring of safety arrangements during the festival.
The District Administration appeals to all devotees and participants to cooperate with authorities and follow the instructions issued in the interest of public safety and smooth conduct of the festival.
