Gandaulim overbridge likely to be ready by May: Faldessai

Panaji: Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Thursday said that work on the Gandaulim railway overbridge is progressing well, and expressed optimism that the project will be completed by May.

He was speaking with regards to the inspection conducted by a team of officials from various departments and the contractor on the status of the ongoing work.

One of the issues that was discussed during the inspection was movement of traffic and how the work on top of the piers will proceed in this regard, Faldessai said.

“We are targeting the month of May to complete the work, and we urge motorists and citizens to cooperate with us as this will help us speed up the work. A lot of people travel from Sankhali, Valpoi and Bicholim along this route, hence the traffic is tremendous. Rather than make haste, people should maintain lane discipline so that vehicles can move quickly at the railway crossing as this causes bottlenecks for prolonged periods. Even I got stuck once for nearly 20 minutes after the gate was raised at the crossing as there were vehicles on both sides of the road moving in one direction. I urge people to have patience and cooperate with us for the next 2-3 months so that work can be completed quickly,” he said.
