Calangute Beach Finds Seaweed Washing Ashore, Sparking Environmental Concerns
Calangute: Residents and tourists visiting Calangute Beach recently noticed patches of seaweed scattered across the sandy shoreline, with dark seaweed deposits mixed with footprints and beach activity. The presence of seaweed indicates natural coastal processes, often influenced by tidal movements and seasonal changes.
Local authorities have initiated beach cleanup drives to remove the seaweed and maintain the aesthetic and environmental quality of the popular tourist spot. Environmental experts note that while seaweed is a natural occurrence, excessive accumulation can affect beach usability and marine ecosystems.
“Hope they clean it up soon, don’t want tourists avoiding our beach,” said a local shack owner
“Seaweed is nature’s way, but too much of it isn’t good. Hope action will be taken,” added another tourist on the beach.
