Casino Fury Swells in Panaji: Locals Unite Against ‘Disease’ on Mandovi”
PANAJI: Campaign against the casino vessels in the River Mandovi is getting hotter and hotter day in and day out as voices echoed “Amka Naka, Amka Naka, Casino Amka Naka at the meeting called at Menezes Braganza hall in city on Tuesday.
There was overwhelming response to the call given by the prominent citizens, social activists besides senior citizens of the Capital City Panaji against the casinos in the River Mandovi besides adding a new 112 meter long casino vessel to the existing casinos.
The prominent amongst them were Sabina Martins, Particia Pinto, Elsa, Valmiki Naik, Surendra Furtado, Dr Lily Sukhija, Avertano Martins, Rui Ferreira and many others.
They stated that in Goa every month meetings are being held at village level in the form of gram sabhas while in cities meetings are being held at Municipal levels there people should take resolutions against the casinos otherwise this disease will flourish in every nook and corner of the state.
This action in the villages and cities should be persistent and continuous. People should be after them only then this problem will be resolved, they added.
The two paged letter from retired Allahabad High Court Justice Ferdinho Rebello was also read by Ms Patricia Pinto on the occasion of the casinos awareness campaign.
They further said that actions on the streets should be started till they remove casinos from the River Mandovi as it has polluted the air, fish, clams, water, environment besides polluting the minds of the youth adding this pollution has not stopped here in Panaji but it has started spreading in the surrounding areas.
Besides disturbing ecology, there is loud music sound, social impact, releasing of wet waste, nauseating stench emanating from the River Mandovi.wet waste.
In the end the gathering resolved to fight the menace till it was dragged out of River Mandovi.
