Goa Welcomes the World as Carnaval 2026 is Flagged Off in Panaji

Panaji, 14th February 2026 – The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, marked the grand flag-off of the Panjim leg of the iconic Goa Carnaval 2026 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, in the presence of the MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade; Hon’ble Tourism Minister, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte; Chairman GTDC Shri Kedar J Naik; CCP Mayor Shri Rohit Monserrate; the Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik; Managing Director GTDC Shri Kuldeep Arolkar and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant stated “The Goa Carnaval reflects the State’s inclusive and welcoming spirit, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds through culture, music and celebration. Such festivals not only strengthen our cultural identity but also enhance Goa’s global visibility as a vibrant destination. We are delighted to see enthusiastic participation from international visitors, reaffirming Goa’s standing as a preferred destination for experiential and cultural tourism.”

The Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte added “Goa Carnaval is a celebration of our living heritage and the collective spirit of our people. The strong presence of international visitors, many witnessing Carnaval for the first time, highlights the growing global interest in Goa’s cultural experiences. Through such flagship events, we continue to promote Goa beyond its beaches and create meaningful, immersive experiences for visitors while supporting local artists and communities.”

The Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik, added “The Panjim parade is the result of coordinated efforts by local performers, cultural groups and multiple stakeholders. The diverse floats and performances reflect Goa’s rich cultural fabric and the Department’s commitment to delivering high-quality, safe and engaging festive experiences for residents and visitors alike.”

The ceremonial flag-off in the State capital witnessed an overwhelming public response, with large numbers of domestic and international visitors lining the streets of Panaji. Tourists from across India and abroad gathered to witness Goa’s most celebrated cultural spectacle, many experiencing the Carnaval for the very first time, while several others returned to relive its vibrant legacy.

The procession was led by the charismatic King Momo, whose grand arrival and traditional entourage heralded the spirit of revelry and joy. A series of creatively designed floats depicting Goa’s cultural heritage, contemporary themes and festive traditions rolled through the streets, accompanied by spirited performances. From traditional folk and cultural dances to energetic musical acts, the parade captured the hearts of all who witnessed it, transforming Panaji into a living canvas of colour, rhythm and celebration.

The Department of Tourism has put in place enhanced infrastructure, visitor facilitation and crowd management measures to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for all.

Goa Carnaval 2026 will continue across Margao, Vasco, Mapusa and Morjim in the coming days, further amplifying the festive spirit across the State and reinforcing Goa’s position as a culturally rich, welcoming and vibrant destination
