Food Safety Revamp: South Goa Cracks Down on Hygiene, Empowers Locals

Margao: Shri Velton Tellis, Dy. Collector, South-I, chaired the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) meeting reg. Food & Safety in the presence of Ms. Sanjyot Kudalkar, Designated Officer, South Goa, who acted as Member Secretary. Officers from the Agriculture, Women and Child Development, Health, Education, Police, Civil Supplies, Tourism Departments and Dy. Director of Panchayats were present.

The Committee discussed identification of hygienic vending locations, registration of local gadas and meat shops, and proper waste disposal near food business areas. Municipalities and Panchayats were instructed to shift food carts to approved hygienic zones and allow registration under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA). The Tourism Department was directed to register all coastal shacks under FSSA and ensure compliance with COTPA and hygiene norms. The Agriculture Department, along with FDA, was asked to conduct awareness programmes on sustainable and organic farming. The Education Department was directed to prepare an inspection and monitoring schedule for Mid-Day Meal schemes, school and college canteens, Eat Right Campus initiatives, FOSTAC training and COTPA compliance.
