CD Fountainhead edges past Rising Stars of Ponda by 3 wickets
Margao: CD Fountainhead registered a thrilling three-wicket victory over Rising Stars of Ponda in a league match of the GSB Unity Cup 3.0 at the MCC Ground, Margao, on Wednesday under floodlights.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Rising Stars of Ponda posted a modest total of 119 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Venkat Biche (17) and Sanat Mhapne (18) provided 37 runs opening stand in 4 overs, while Nandan Acharya contributed with 18. Paarth Kossambe remained unbeaten on 15 to push the total past the 120-run mark. Manish Kakode was the standout bowler for CD Fountainhead, returning excellent figures of 4 wickets for just 16 runs, well supported by Aditya Prabhugaonkar and Vivek Keny, who picked up two wickets each.
In reply, CD Fountainhead had a shaky start, losing early wickets and slipping to 36 for 5. Manish Kakode then steadied the innings with a crucial 50, anchoring the chase before retiring out. Pranav Biche (12) added useful runs in the middle order, while Anish Prabhudesai (14*), along with Vivek Shantaram Keny (10*), calmly guided the team home.
CD Fountainhead reached the target in 14.5 overs, sealing a hard-fought win and valuable league points despite disciplined bowling from Rising Stars, led by Sanat Mhapne and Ved Mahambre.
Both Manish Kakode, who was adjudged Man of the Match, and Vivek Keny, who won the Hero of the Match award, received their honours from the chief guest Jaiprakash Kunde.
