Drishti Marine Rescues Four Persons from Drowning Off Goa Coast Over Weekend; Thwarts Theft, Attends to Medical Emergencies
Panajim February 2, 2025 – Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued four persons from drowning over the weekend, even as members of the trained lifesaving force also thwarted a theft, traced two missing children and attended to four medical emergencies, including a stingray attack at Candolim beach, during the same holiday period.
Arambol beach: A three-year-old girl from Rajasthan, found wandering along Arambol beach, was located by Drishti Marine lifesavers, following which an extensive search was organised. Her parents were eventually traced and the child was reunited with her family after following due process.
Ashwem beach: Five lifesavers rushed to the aid of a 24-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh who suffered a medical emergency at Ashwem beach. The lifesavers, who are trained in administering first aid, stabilised him and rushed him to the Primary Health Centre at Siolim using their official vehicle.
Morjim beach: A 38-year-old woman from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, who was swimming off the beach, struggled to stay afloat when lifesavers Amon Salgaonkar, Prathmesh Kubal and Sachin Naik rushed to rescue her. Spotting her distress, the lifesavers used a rescue boat, a rescue tube and a jetski to successfully bring her to shore. In another incident, lifesaver Duttaram Chavan noticed a 50-year-old Russian woman in distress in the water and immediately rushed to her rescue with a rescue boat. She was brought to shore soon. Her condition was reported to be stable.
Anjuna beach: A male tourist from Uttar Pradesh, while walking through a rocky patch near Anjuna beach, suffered a small but deep cut and was bleeding heavily. Upon noticing him in distress, Drishti Marine lifesaver Suraj Nimbalkar administered first aid until the bleeding stopped and handed him over to his friend.
Baga beach: A four-year-old girl visiting the beach with her parents from Maharashtra was found wandering along Baga beach. Drishti Marine lifesavers took charge of the situation and embarked on a search for her parents, whom they eventually traced and reunited with their daughter. At the same beach, lifesavers came to the assistance of a 24-year-old tourist from Solan, Himachal Pradesh, who had lost his mobile phone while strolling on the beach. Beach Marshal Riya helped locate the phone, which was handed over to the tourist after verification.
Candolim beach: A 40-year-old tourist from Karnataka was stung by a stingray while swimming off the beach. Lifesavers Ashwin Ghag and Sandesh Mhalkar rushed to his rescue, administered first aid and transferred the victim to the nearby Candolim Health Centre for further treatment
Calangute beach: Lifesaver Subham Mukhiya rescued a 54-year-old tourist from Karnataka from drowning off Calangute beach. Mukhiya spotted the person in distress in the water, rushed to his aid using a rescue boat and brought him to safety.
Colva beach: Drishti lifesaver Sachin Sukate chased a bag thief through a beach crowd. After spotting the suspect near a tower, Sukate alerted his Captain. Together with a Beach Marshal, they apprehended the thief and handed him over to the police.
Cavelossim beach: Alerted by a beach shack waiter, lifesavers Rupesh Velip, Lavu Gaonkar and Laxman Gaonkar noticed a 70-year-old man behaving abnormally on the shore. They placed him in a recovery position and administered first aid until an ambulance arrived and trained paramedics took charge of the situation.
Dudhsagar waterfalls: A 22-year-old man who was on a hike near the Dudhsagar waterfalls started calling for help after finding himself trapped in a pool of water without any safety gear. Lifesaver Babu Gavli, noticing him in distress, immediately rushed to his rescue and brought him to safety using a rescue tube.
