“EC Student Hangs Self at BITS Pilani Hostel”
PANJIM: A Third Year student of Electronics and Communication Engineering studying in BITs Pilani allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan with the help of a bedsheet.
A 20-year old female student identified as Vaishnavi resident of Bengaluru,Karnataka, informed the police sources in the police department.
This is the sixth case of such death since December 2024 that raises the concern and doubts about the mental health of the student studying in BITS Pilani.
Verna police informed that the inicdent of suicide came to light only after the PRO from BITS Pilani Mr Arjun Halarnkar informed them late night through a telephone call.
The police officials in Verna police station on duty rushed to the college campus hostel and shifted the body to the hospital for further investigation and examination after conducting the panchanama.
A case of unnatural death has been registered and an inquiry has been initiated to probe what went wrong with the student who resorted to extreme steps.
It may be noted that in December 2024 a second year a BE student, Om Priyan Singh studying in Computer Science and MSc chemistry committed suicide.Then
Master Atharv Desai, committed suicide in March 2025 while in May 2025 Master Krishna Kasera studying in MSc chemisry and simultaneously doing BE electrical and Instrumentation had also ended his life through suicide..
In August 2025, a third year Economics and Computer Science Master Kushagra Jain was also found dead allegedly committed suicide. Even in September 2025, Rishi Nair, a second year student studying in MSc Physics had also committed suicide.
