Calangute MLA Pledges Policy Push for Traditional Fishing Community
Candolim: In a landmark meeting, calangute MLA met with traditional fishermen, vowing to champion their cause. The gathering highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive policy to safeguard the community’s rights, livelihoods, and heritage.
Fishermen emphasized that their beach huts are vital infrastructure, recognized under CRZ norms, and not encroachments.

MLA lobo assured protection of these huts and uninterrupted beach access, terming it a “non-negotiable government priority”.
The meeting underscored the community’s deep-rooted connection to the sea and the need for policy recognition. A draft policy is expected soon, aiming to preserve the community’s legacy.
