Karnataka & Goa NCC Directorate Wins Prime Minister’s Banner at Republic Day Camp
The Karnataka & Goa Directorate of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has once again brought national recognition to the region by winning the prestigious NCC Prime Minister’s Banner, emerging as the Champion Directorate at the Republic Day Camp (RDC).
The coveted award was presented by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India during the RDC award ceremony on 28 Jan 26 and banner was received by Senior Under Officer (SUO) Abhishek Y V in the presence of Air Commodore S B Arun Kumar, VSM, Deputy Director General (DDG), Karnataka & Goa Directorate. The honour reflects the Directorate’s consistent excellence in training, discipline, leadership, ceremonial standards, cultural activities and overall performance at the Republic Day Camp, as well as its strong showing in Centrally Organised Camps and NCC training outcomes throughout the year.
Goa’s contribution to this achievement has been significant, with three cadets from the state representing the Directorate at the Republic Day Camp. Two cadets — Raunak Ramdas Phal Dessai of Padre Conceição College of Engineering and Sitam Indra Swain of DMS College, Mapusa — participated from the 1 Goa Naval NCC Unit. One cadet, Raghunath Mohan Bhatkande of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, represented the 1 Goa Battalion NCC.
The strong performance of Goa NCC units has been supported by effective leadership at the unit level and continued institutional backing from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa. The three NCC units in the state are presently commanded by Captain Sumeet Sinha, Colonel H S Dhanoa and Lieutenant Colonel Poonam Sharma.
The Prime Minister’s Banner is awarded annually to the Champion Directorate based on an aggregate assessment that includes performance in inter-directorate competitions at the Republic Day Camp, drill and ceremonial standards, cultural events, Best Cadet competitions, discipline, performance in Centrally Organised Camps, training standards and contribution to national integration and youth development.
The achievement once again underscores the consistent contribution of Goa NCC units and cadets to national-level excellence and reinforces the role of the NCC as a premier organisation for grooming disciplined, motivated and socially responsible youth.
