“Bank Unions Strike for 5-Day Work Week, Services Disrupted Across Goa ”
PANJIM: All India Bank Unions strcuk work on Tuesday as part of their genuine demand to make 5-day working days per week.
The bankers brought a morcha on Azad Maidan demanding the approval of the government for implementation of 5 day work week in Banking industry and declaring the remaining Saturdays at present 2nd and 4th Saturdays are already holidays for banks. As holidays as recommended by the Indian Banks’ Association based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between IBA and UFBU on December 7 in 2023 and as agreed in the settlement /JointNote dated March 8 2024.
They said at that time, it was assured that their demand for declaring all the remaining Saturdays as holidays would be considered in due course of time but till date the issue was kept pending.
The nine associations linked to the strike were AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBO, and NOB.
They shouted slogans like long hours are not productivity, implementation of 5-day banking, two days of weekly rest is a matter of dignity – not luxury, 5 -day banking is a right – not a privilege and others.
