Veterans Football: Quepem Veterans Edge Out Calangute in Thrilling Assolda Cup Final
Quepem: In a nail-biting finale, Quepem Veterans emerged triumphant, defeating Calangute Veterans 4-3 in the tie-breaker to clinch the 2nd Assolda Veterans Cup football tournament. The electrifying match, played at the Kamsai Moll ground, Assolda, kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
The first half was a masterclass in defensive football, with both teams showcasing their skills and tactics. The goalless deadlock remained intact until the final whistle, setting the stage for a pulsating second half. The second half lived up to its billing, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Quepem Veterans’ Anil made a stunning save on Bruno Coutinho’s powerful shot, while Calangute’s Pascoal Fernandes hit the crossbar.
The tie-breaker proved to be the decider, with Quepem Veterans finding the net four times to Calangute’s three. Pascoal Fernandes was the top scorer, while Allwyn was adjudged Man-of-the-final. Anil Fernandes (Quepem Veterans) and Ramesh (Calangute Veterans) won the Best Goalkeeper and Best Defender awards, respectively.
