Forest Rights Act Claims Get a Boost as Collector Ankit Yadav Holds Crucial Meeting
Valpoi, January 23 – In a significant move to expedite the resolution of pending forest rights claims, Collector (North Goa) Shri Ankit Yadav IAS chaired a District Level Committee (DLC) meeting at the office of Dy. Collector Sattari, Valpoi. The meeting, held to decide on claims filed under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, reviewed 61 claims, with personal hearings conducted for the applicants.

Claimants who failed to attend the hearing were given an additional opportunity to submit their documents, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ensuring justice for forest dwellers. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to clear the backlog of forest rights claims, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant setting a deadline of December 19, 2025, to dispose of all pending applications ¹ ² ³.
The Forest Rights Act, enacted to recognize and vest forest rights in Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers, has seen significant progress in Goa, with over 10,500 claims filed. The state government aims to issue sanads to eligible claimants, promoting tribal welfare and forest conservation.
