Through Education & Inclusion, Vedanta Sesa Goa Reaffirms Commitment to Nation Building
On the twin occasions of National Girl Child Day and the International Day of Education, Vedanta Sesa Goa reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive growth through education, skills, and empowerment initiatives that are transforming lives across rural and underserved communities.
The company’s flagship CSR programme, Project Vriddhi, has become a cornerstone of its social impact, promoting education in remote areas with a special focus on supporting the girl child. Through the Vedanta Utkarsh Scholarship, more than 1,300 meritorious students have been able to pursue studies from Class 10 through professional courses since 2018, with girls accounting for nearly half of the beneficiaries. For many, this support has been life changing. Leela Parab from Mulgao, Goa, was able to continue her B.Pharma degree despite personal loss, while Riya Dattaram Naik from Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, pursued her passion for fashion design, breaking barriers of geography and circumstance. Lanchana M a resident of remote Chitradurga was able to complete pursue her passion for computer engineering with the support that she received as part of the Vedanta Utkarsh Scholarship.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Navin Jaju, CEO of Vedanta Sesa Goa, said, “On National Girl Child Day and International Day of Education, we, at Vedanta Sesa Goa, reaffirm our unwavering commitment to empowering the future of the nation with inclusive education, skills and opportunities. Through Project Vriddhi, the Vedanta Utkarsh Scholarships, and initiatives like the Sesa Technical School and the Sesa Football Academy, we are enabling the youth and empowering young girls to realise their potential and aspirations. These initiatives reflect our belief in giving back meaningfully by investing in resilient communities for a prosperous and #ViksitBharat.”
The company’s focus on education-to-employment has been equally significant. The Sesa Technical School, established in Sanquelim , Goa, in 1994, has trained more than 2,000 youth in trades such as electrician, machinist, fitter, instrument mechanic and computer programming, maintaining a near-100 percent placement record. Girls are increasingly being encouraged to take up technical courses at the STS, supported by scholarships. Ex students such as Chetan Salelkar, a graduate of the fitter trade, who went on to establish his own enterprise, Aaradhya Dwarka Realtors, testify to the transformational impact of the STS in shaping futures.
Digital literacy has emerged as another pillar of Vedanta’s interventions. Established under the aegis of the Vedanta Foundation, seven computer centres and 19 school-based labs have empowered thousands in Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka by bridging the digital gap, including learners with visual impairments – overall ~65% beneficiaries being girls and women.
Infrastructure support has also played a crucial role. The Back-to-School initiative in Karnataka benefits 3000+ children annually, providing essential school kits and ensuring continuity in education. 120+ Anganwadis under the Nand Ghar initiative have been strengthened with smart kits, solar power, and digital tools, while dedicated bus services in Karnataka and Odisha ensure safe transport for children in remote areas.
Beyond classrooms, Vedanta Sesa Goa has extended its vision into sports. The Sesa Football Academy in Goa has empowered girls from rural areas to explore pathways for success with structured training and competitive exposure, culminating in the academy’s senior women’s team
qualifying for the Indian Women’s League 2026. Players like Aaroshi Govekar and Pearl Fernandes, who have earned a callup to the India senior women’s team and the India U-17 team respectively, have become symbols of how mentorship and opportunity can transform adversity into achievement. “It’s a dream come true to wear the Indian jersey,” Govekar said, crediting the academy, her teammates, and family for their support.
Together, these initiatives reflect Vedanta Sesa Goa’s long-term vision of empowering girls not merely as beneficiaries but as agents of change. By strengthening access to education, skills, infrastructure, and opportunity, the company continues to help young women and rural youth overcome systemic barriers and shape futures defined by choice, confidence, and contribution. As the nation observed National Girl Child Day and the world marked the International Day of Education, Vedanta Sesa Goa reiterated its belief that investing in education and girls is fundamental to building resilient communities and an inclusive, sustainable future.
