“GOA GST SCAM: Karnataka Consultant’s Rs 10 Crore Fraud Rocks Hospitality Sector”

PANAJI: Following a complaint filed by a Bengaluru-based businessman, the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) Goa police has registered a case involving an alleged Goods and Services Tax (GST) fraud amounting to Rs 10.06 crore.

As per the FIR, the accused, a resident of Belagavi, Karnataka, was engaged as a GST consultant to manage indirect tax filings for a hospitality business in Goa. The complainant alleged that the accused misused GST portal access credentials and sensitive business data entrusted to him for statutory compliance.
Investigators claim that instead of filing legitimate returns, the accused allegedly generated fake outward supplies, created fictitious transactions and fraudulently claimed input tax credit (ITC) without the movement of goods or services.
The alleged fraud was carried out using multiple firms, including one that later came under scrutiny after its operations were sealed by court..
The complaint further alleged that forged GST returns, manipulated screenshots, inflated tax liabilities and fabricated records were allegedly produced to mislead both the complainant and government.
The complainant also alleged that a large sum of money was collected from the complainant under the pretext of depositing in government dues, which were instead misappropriated.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is in progress.
