Porvorim: Chief Minister Dr Pramod sawant chaired a meeting of the Goa State Animal Welfare Board, in the presence of Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Desai and Minister for Animal Husbandry Shri Nilkant Halarnkar. The meeting focused on further strengthening animal welfare mechanisms across the State.
Key decisions and deliberations included
– deployment of police personnel to assist in lawful and humane impounding of cattle,
– issuance of notifications for compulsory sterilisation and vaccination of domestic dogs,
– introduction of Mobile Sterilisation Units to improve outreach in remote areas, and
– mandatory registration of meat traders with the Animal Husbandry Department to ensure regulation, traceability and compliance with animal welfare norms.
