Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Snehal Kauthankar’s superb century in vain as Uttarakhand beat Goa
Panaji Goa suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Uttarakhand in a Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group match played at the K.L. Saini Stadium, Jaipur, on Saturday. Despite a fighting total of 270, Goa were unable to defend the target as Uttarakhand chased it down comfortably in 46.2 overs, losing just three wickets.
Put in to bat after losing the toss, Goa were bowled out for 270 in 49.1 overs. Opener Snehal Kauthankar was the standout performer for Goa, scoring a splendid 105 off 114 balls, which included 13 fours and a six. He added 59 runs for the opening wicket with debutant Azaan Thota (34). Goa, however, lost momentum with the early dismissals of Suyash Prabhudesai (1) and Lalit Yadav (7). Kauthankar then steadied the innings with Abhinav Tejrana, the duo putting together a crucial 116-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Tejrana contributed a valuable 54, while skipper Deepraj chipped in with 25. A lack of support from the lower order saw Goa’s innings fold with five balls remaining. For Uttarakhand, J. Suchith and Abhay Negi picked up three wickets each.

In reply, Uttarakhand were placed at a tricky 83 for 3 in 20.3 overs before Shashwat Dangwal (70 off 70 balls) and Aanjaneya Suryavanshi (115* off 87 balls) took control of the chase. The pair added an unbeaten 191-run stand to guide Uttarakhand to victory.

With this result, Goa have now suffered back-to-back defeats after a hat-trick of wins earlier in the tournament. They currently lie fourth in Group A with 12 points from five matches (three wins and two losses). Goa will next face Punjab on January 6.
