CGWB–WRD Goa Organise Workshop on Groundwater Data Dissemination & Aquifer Mapping

Porovrim: The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), an apex organization for groundwater management under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, in association with the Water Resources Department (WRD), Government of Goa, organised a one-day Workshop and Stakeholders’ Consultation Meeting on Dissemination of Groundwater Data, Aquifer Mapping and Groundwater Management Plans on December 16, 2025, at the Conference Hall of WRD, Porvorim.

The workshop was inaugurated by Shri G. Krishnamurthy, Regional Director, CGWB, South Western Region, Bengaluru, along with Smt. Sangita P. Bhattacharjee, Scientist-D and Officer-in-Charge, CGWB State Unit Office, Belagavi.
The Chief Guest was Shri S. S. Gill, IAS, Secretary (Water Resources), Government of Goa, while Shri D. Y. Salelkar, Chief Engineer, WRD Goa, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.

The primary objective of the workshop was to disseminate groundwater-related data and demonstrate methods and platforms through which stakeholders and line departments can access groundwater data and reports.

In his presidential address, Shri G. Krishnamurthy highlighted CGWB’s extensive work in data generation, analysis, and management, and explained how groundwater data is made available to stakeholders through CGWB’s official web portals and reports.

Addressing the gathering, Shri S. S. Gill, IAS, emphasized the crucial role of scientists in data generation, research, and dissemination of scientific findings related to groundwater. He appreciated the efforts of CGWB and the Ministry of Jal Shakti for organizing the workshop, stating that data dissemination is vital for effective planning and decision-making by line departments in Goa.

Technical lectures were delivered by eminent scientists including Smt. Sangita P. Bhattacharjee (Scientist-D), Dr. M. Gobinath (Scientist-C), Dr. Lubna Kouser (Scientist-C), Dr. Manoj Ibrampurkar (Nodal Officer, GSRF Goa), and Dr. Sujeet Desai (Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, Goa). The sessions covered topics such as the groundwater scenario in Goa, NAQUIM programme, groundwater level and water quality data interpretation, and live demonstrations of data access through web portals and GIS tools.
