Stingray Stings Four off Hollant beach; Drishti Marine Lifesavers Also Rescue Four Others From Drowning Off Goa Beaches
Panaji, December – Drishti Marine lifesavers provided prompt medical assistance to four persons who were stung by a stingray off Hollant beach, in South Goa, even as four persons were rescued by the lifesavers from drowning over the weekend, during which they also provided medical assistance in three instances and successfully located a lost child at Calangute beach.
Calangute beach: A four-year-old boy from Bihar was reported missing from Calangute, following which Drishti Marine lifesavers launched a search operation. The missing boy was located at another section of the beach by the lifesavers. He was handed into the care of his worried parents after following due protocol. A Bengaluru man also had to be administered first aid after he sustained a minor cut on his hand while at the beach.
Candolim beach: A 44-year-old man from Russia, who was facing difficulties while swimming, was rescued from drowning off Candolim beach by lifesaver Santosh Patil, using a rescue board for assistance. The person was reported to be stable after the rescue.
Sinquerim beach: A 65-year-old Russian man was experiencing discomfort while resting on a beach bed. When Sukhram reached the spot, he noted that the man was sweating, suffering from facial spasms and had a weak pulse. On offering first aid, the person and his companion declined any further medical assistance and left the site.
Miramar beach Lifesavers Ramesh Bhomkar, Mayur Kinalkar and Amit Kesarkar rescued a 45-year-old man from West Bengal from trying to attempt self-harm off Miramar beach. The three lifesavers rushed to his aid and managed to calm him down, before bringing the person back ashore. Local police authorities as well as 108 medical personnel were also informed about the incident. At the same beach, a 46-year-old man from Usgao fell near the waterline under the influence of alcohol and experienced difficulty breathing. Drishti Marine lifesavers brought him ashore and put him at ease, before he was transported in a 108 ambulance summoned by the lifesavers.
Hollant Beach: Four persons, who included three young men and one woman, suffered stingray bites while they were swimming off the beach. Their condition was immediately attended to by Drishti Marine lifesavers, who administered first aid, after which the victims were reported to be in stable condition.
Betalbatim beach: A 19-year-old woman from Noida was swimming off the beach, but panicked while navigating sandbars and depressions in the seabed. After an initial attempt to rescue her using a rescue board failed, lifesavers Omkar Dhuri and Roshan Patil successfully completed the rescue using a jetski. The victim’s condition is reported to be stable. A 28-year-old man also sustained injuries from a piece of glass at the same beach, while walking in shallow water. He was administered first aid by an on-duty lifesaver.
Palolem beach: A 36-year-old man from Shirdi, who was swimming off the South Goa beach, panicked after hitting a deep depression in the seabed. Lifesaver Subhash Gaonkar, who noticed his plight, performed the rescue using a rescue board. The victim was brought safely ashore and is reported to be in stable condition.
