Goa Govt Cracks Down on Safety Norms: Nightclubs, Bars Ordered to Comply with Fire, Structural Safety Rules”

PANAJI: In the wake of the recent fire incident that claimed 25 lives, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued an advisory to all nightclubs, restaurants, bars, event venues, and similar establishments in Goa, directing them to ensure strict compliance with fire safety, electrical safety, emergency preparedness, and structural safety norms.

The advisory, issued under Sections 22(2)(h), 22(2)(i), and 24 of the Disaster Management (DM) Act 2005, mandates that establishments maintain a valid Fire NOC, adhere to occupancy limits, ensure functional safety equipment, and train staff regularly.

Establishments are required to conduct an internal safety audit within 7 days and keep the report ready for inspection. Non-compliance will attract strict enforcement action, including closure, suspension, or cancellation of licenses, and prosecution under Section 51(b) of the DM Act, 2005, and other applicable laws.

The advisory is effective immediately, and establishments are directed to comply with the prescribed safety norms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
