Arpora-Nagoa Sarpanch Protests Sewerage Tanker Blockade at Baga STP
Arpora: In a heated standoff, Arpora-Nagoa sarpanch Roshan Redkar led a protest at the Baga Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) in Calangute, blocking the entrance after the panchayat’s tanker was denied entry. The panchayat claims they’ve been facing harassment at the STP for two months, despite paying fees and following protocol.

According to Redkar, the STP had agreed to accept their tankers two days prior, but suddenly refused entry on Monday evening. “They’re harassing us. We’ve paid the fees and followed the norms. This is high-handedness,” Redkar alleged.
The STP management countered that the tanker was stopped due to non-compliance with norms and doubts over the sewage’s origin, despite the panchayat’s name being clearly painted on the tanker.
Tensions ran high, but a discussion with STP staff eventually resolved the issue, allowing the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat tanker to unload its sewage. Panchayat members claim other villages’ sewage is still being accepted, and they’re being unfairly targeted.
The dispute stems from Calangute residents objecting to external sewage being brought to the Baga STP earlier this year. A strong police presence prevented the situation from escalating.
