16 Persons, Including Five Foreigners, Rescued from Drowning by Drishti Marine Lifesavers Over the Weekend

— Sixteen beachgoers and visitors to the iconic Dudhsagar waterfalls were rescued from drowning by Drishti Marine lifesavers over the weekend. Five of them were foreigners. The lifesavers during the same period also traced one missing child and administered first aid in two instances, including treating a child stung by a jellyfish.

Mandrem beach: A Russian couple, aged 41 and 38, was pulled nearly 100 metres from the shore by a rip current while swimming off the beach. Lifesavers Karan Tandel, using a rescue board and Dattaguru Korgankar, on a jet ski, rushed to their assistance and brought them safely ashore. On the same beach, a 38-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh was also dragged offshore by a current. Lifesaver Suraj Kelushkar promptly intervened using a rescue board and helped him return to the shore safely.

Morjim beach: A 37-year-old tourist from the UK was pulled around 60 metres offshore by a rip current off the beach. Lifesavers Nutan Mote, equipped with a rescue board and Vikram Talakar on a jet ski successfully rescued the victim and ensured his safe return.

Baga beach: A 23-year-old tourist from Maharashtra required assistance while in the water and was unable to get back to the shore. Lifesavers Sudhar Singh and Sujan Nagvekar intervened using rescue boards and brought him safely ashore.

Candolim beach: A 19-year-old tourist from Telangana could not swim back to the shore and needed assistance. Lifesaver Krishna Shiddekar came to his aid, rushing in with a rescue tube and ensuring the young man’s safety.

Bogmalo beach: An 11-year-old girl from Baga suffered pain following a jellyfish sting in the waters off Bogmalo beach. Drishti Marine lifesavers rushed to assist her and administered immediate first aid before handing her over to the 108 ambulance team for further treatment.

Velsao beach: A 54-year-old woman from Zuarinagar fell in shallow water off Velsao beach and experienced difficulty breathing. Lifesavers reached out to her, cleared her airway, provided oxygen support and handed her over to the 108 Ambulance for further medical care.

Betalbatim beach: Two Russian women, aged 72 and 63, entered a rip current off Betalbatim beach and were unable to swim back to safety. Due to a language barrier, they were unable to heed warnings, so lifesavers Mayur Lahane on a jet ski and Suraj Girap with a rescue tube responded to their distress and successfully rescued both swimmers.

Benaulim beach: A 29-year-old man from Hyderabad was dragged offshore by strong waves off the beach, forcing lifesaver Miraj to respond immediately with a rescue tube and bring him safely to shore. In the rescue effort Miraj’s valiant effort was supplemented by Drishti Marine teams stationed at nearby beaches.

Colva beach: A five-year-old boy from Karnataka was found wandering alone. Lifesavers informed beachgoers through announcements and quickly located his parents, reuniting him after completing identification protocol.

Palolem beach: A kayak carrying a 25-year-old man and a six-year-old child capsized around 500 metres offshore from the beach, forcing lifesaver Parshuram Tari to rescue them using a jet ski.

Agonda beach: A couple was swimming outside the demarcated safe zone off Agonda beach, despite repeated warnings by lifesavers urging them to swim in the safe zone. As a result, the 27-year-old woman from Maharashtra drifted into a rip current and was rescued by lifesaver Datta Velip using a rescue board.

Patnem beach: Two tourists from Uttarakhand, aged 25 and 28, waded into the deep sea and encountered strong currents, which they were unable to negotiate. Lifesaver Megraj Girap executed the rescue using a surfboard and safely brought both victims ashore.

Dudhsagar waterfalls: A three-and-a-half-year-old girl from Kerala slipped into deep water without a life jacket and was rescued by lifesaver Sangam Dushi using a rescue tube. In another incident, lifesaver Sagar Dushi rescued a 30-year-old man from Hyderabad who began drowning after entering the water without a life jacket.
