Mapusa, November 26, 2025 – A significant step towards transforming Mapusa’s iconic Municipal Market was taken on wednesday as councillors gathered for a detailed meeting to discuss the proposed refurbishment plan. The meeting, focused on people-centric development, aimed to revive the market’s glory while incorporating inputs from all stakeholders.
MMC Chairperson. Priya Mishal emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach, stating, “Our goal is to create a vibrant and inclusive market that reflects the spirit of Mapusa. We will work together to ensure that the redevelopment benefits our traders, vendors, and the community.”
The proposed plan, to be implemented in a phased manner, includes modernizing infrastructure, improving sanitation, and enhancing security. Representatives from various associations, including Mapusa Merchants Association and All Goa FMCG and Telecom Distributors Associations, welcomed the initiative, highlighting the need for a revamped market to boost local business and tourism.


Architect Shri Ashwinikumar Prabhu presented the design concept, incorporating suggestions from stakeholders. The meeting concluded with a consensus on moving forward with the project, ensuring that the refurbished market becomes a hub of activity and prosperity for Mapusa.
