Spain secured a spot in the World Cup with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Turkey in Seville, capping off an impressive qualifying campaign. The team, led by Luis de la Fuente, finished top of Group E, boasting five wins and a clean sheet in their six matches.

Dani Olmo’s strike and Mikel Oyarzabal’s equalizer ensured Spain’s place in the tournament, despite a spirited fightback from Turkey. The result extends Spain’s unbeaten run to 31 matches, matching Italy’s European record.

“We didn’t celebrate as euphorically as we would have liked. We wanted to finish with another win and another clean sheet,” Olmo said. “It’s a bittersweet feeling, but we’re happy to have qualified for the World Cup.”

Turkey, meanwhile, will face the winner of Northern Ireland, Sweden, Romania, or Northern Macedonia in the March play-offs. Spain’s unbeaten run consists of 25 wins and six draws, with their last defeat being a 2-0 loss to Scotland in March 2023.
